Companies House Identity Verification Update

Companies House has started contacting directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) who still need to complete parts of the identity verification process.

If you are a director or PSC, now is a good time to check whether you need to take any action. Identity verification is becoming an important part of Companies House compliance, and businesses should not ignore any correspondence they receive.

Why You May Receive an Email

Companies House is currently contacting individuals whose identity verification records are incomplete.

One issue that often causes confusion occurs when someone acts as both a director and a PSC. Although you only need to verify your identity once, Companies House issues separate personal codes for each role. Many people overlook this requirement, which can trigger additional emails from Companies House.

If you hold multiple director or PSC appointments, you may also receive more than one email.

What Is a Personal Code?

After you complete identity verification, Companies House provides an 11-digit personal code.

This code connects your verified identity to your Companies House records. You should keep it somewhere safe because you may need it for future filings, updates and compliance requirements.

How to Find Your Personal Code

The way you access your code depends on how you completed the identity verification process.

If You Verified Through GOV.UK One Login

Sign in to the same GOV.UK One Login account you used for verification. You can find your personal code within the account management section.

If you completed verification after 8 July, Companies House may also have sent your code by email.

If You Verified Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)

Companies House should have sent your personal code to the email address used during verification.

To link the code to your Companies House account, sign in using the same email address. Confirm that you have already completed identity verification, then enter your personal code and date of birth when prompted.

What Should You Do?

If Companies House contacts you, review the directors and PSCs linked to your company and check that each person has completed the required identity verification steps.

You should also review your company records and make sure they remain accurate and up to date. If your company still lists individuals who no longer have a connection with the business, you should update those records with Companies House as soon as possible.

Taking action early can help prevent delays, compliance issues and unnecessary correspondence.
